Hi, I’m Diarmuid. I have a special interest in the benefits of nature to support health and wellbeing and have trained to become a forest bathing facilitator and forest therapist with Nádúr.
I am also a trained mindfulness practitioner and teacher since 2014. The practices of mindfulness work seamlessly with forest bathing.
I also became involved with ChillUK in 2021, an organisation to help people with health conditions to get sea swimming as another example of using nature to support wellbeing (I love swimming outdoors!).
Professionally I am a HCPC registered physiotherapist with a specialist interest and experience in working with people with persistent (chronic) pain. I am a past chair of the Physiotherapy Pain Association , a member of the Global Alliance of Partners for Pain Advocacy task force, and a member of the Live Well with Pain team. I am currently doing my PhD research with a GUDTP fellowship from the ESRC exploring what happens outside healthcare (treatment) and living well with pain.
Outside work I have a wonderfully patient family; Sarah and two boys who are fast becoming men! I enjoy walking my dog, playing the piano (badly!), and swimming in cold water, being lucky enough to live by the sea.
