It was a misty start to the walk at Dover today. We started at the Riverside Centre with a coffee and chat, then we headed across the fast flowing River Stour and along part of the North Downs Way through Pencester Gardens.

We strolled through Dover town where Chris (one of the North Downs Way Ambassadors) discussed many historical features including one of the smallest Church in England St Edmund’s Chapel.

As we walked on through the four rings water feature in the market square we learnt about the Bronze Age boat found when constructing a road locally in 1992.

We ventured down the underpass, which had deep puddles from the heavy rains, and admired the mosaic artwork of a variety of vessels known to pass the Dover Docks throughout the ages.

Then, on to the seafront where there are several art sculptures including the start/finish marker of the North Downs Way.

Wrapped up warm we watched the Ferry’s heading in and out of the port and discussed the sculptures, local places to enjoy coffee and the landscape before heading back.

Our next walk is on the White Cliffs of Dover where we will be watching out for the Choughs. Why not join us and find out more.
