There was Blue Skies over the White Cliffs of Dover for our Armistace day themed GOGA Dover walk this week.
We welcomed the newly appointed Ecologist for National Trust (Mel) to introduce us to the delicate Chalk landscape. And the rare species which she will be helping to encourage on the cliff tops.
We enjoyed the stroll up the Accessible Path admiring the red berries of the hawthorn and stopped to hear about life in Dover during WW2. Walk Leader Helen pointed out the locations of various bombshelters which were located behind the Dock. We then used colour wheels to focus on the variety of colours in the sea... ranging from browns, blues and dark greys.
When we arrived in a sheltered spot near the coast guard station, Helen shared stories of the brave farmers and land girls who continued throughout the war, and received medals too for their important role in the war effort. We also learnt about bomb hits around the bay in St Margaret's which killed a group of soldiers.
We finished off the session with a hot drink and snack in the visitors centre.
