As the mist lifted at the white cliffs the sky became beautifully clear with the sun gently warming us in the cool spring air. We walked along the accessible path from the National Trust Car Park on to the Cross Channel Geo-Park.
We took regular breaks at the benches along the way to rest and enjoy the view; it’s amazing how the view changes as you progress along the path. We sat on the bench at the view point of our walk admiring the birds utilising the thermals, unfortunately they were just a little too far away for us to identify what they were (I’ll remember to pack the binoculars next week)! There were lots of inquisitive Jackdaws but we sadly didn’t see any choughs.
We enjoyed watching the ferries come in and out of the port also discussing what we thought might have been a training session with one of the ferries and one of its lifeboats. We made our way back to the National Trust Cafe and enjoyed refreshments and a lovely catch up.
The white cliffs of Dover are one of the Cross Channel Geopark Geosites a cooperation between the Kent Downs National Landscape (England) and the Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Nature Park (France) in celebration of their shared geodiversity. The ambition is to gain UNESCO status as the world’s first Cross-Border Geopark united by sea.
